A four-hour professional development workshop titled “Policy and Technical Fundamentals of International Nuclear Safeguards” will be held in conjunction with the 2018 INMM Annual Meeting in Baltimore, Maryland. The workshop offers both a series of online modules as well as the onsite session. Three CEUs and a Professional Certificate are available to attendees who meet the criteria.
This workshop for professionals will provide participants a basic overview of nuclear safeguards, including:
- The nuclear fuel cycle
- Safeguards treaties and legal issues
- Safeguards approaches
- Safeguards application for nuclear facilities
- Nuclear material control and accounting
The onsite session of the workshop will be held Sunday, July 22, from 8 a.m. to noon. It features a panel of speakers who are international safeguards experts and professionals with current or recent experience in policy, technical implementation, and/or inspections. After their presentations, participants will be given time to pose questions to the panel.

- Containment and Surveillance
- Spent Nuclear Fuel Safeguards

Participants who complete both the online and face-to-face portions of the workshop will be awarded three continuing education units from Texas A&M, along with a professional certificate issued by the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station.
The workshop is sponsored by the INMM Southwest Chapter, the INMM International Safeguards Technical Division and INMM student chapters at Texas A&M University and the University of New Mexico.
