Nominations

The Bylaws identify a Nominating Committee, led by the immediate Past President that nominates candidates for officers and members-at-large by April 1st of each year.

The Nominating Committee usually meets in March and selects one or more candidates for each open position. No individual Member shall be nominated for more than one elective office or position in any one election. Once identified, Headquarters staff will verify that the candidates are members in good standing and then contact them to determine their willingness to serve if elected. Self-identification for open positions is encouraged. To notify the Nominating Committee of your interest in standing for election, contact the Immediate Past President or INMM Headquarters.

The Bylaws also allow for candidates to the EC to be nominated by a petition of 15 members. For such a nomination to be accepted, the Secretary must receive the petition by April 1st and validate the petition by verifying that the nominee and petitioners are members in good standing. The candidates(s) are then added to the ballot.

Elections

After the candidates are validated, the Secretary will mail or provide electronically, no later than May 15th, the election package to each member in good standing. The election package includes a letter from the Secretary explaining the ballot and the ballot itself. Ballots are accepted until close of business on June 15th and then transmitted to the Secretary. The ballots are then counted and audited by three Institute members for verification and any ballot irregularities are resolved. If votes are cast for more than two candidates for a given Officer position and if no candidate receives a majority of the votes, a special election is held. Members-at-large are elected by a plurality. Election results are announced at the annual business meeting in July and printed in the following issue of the Journal of Nuclear Materials Management (JNMM).
