Member News
Believe it or not, it is once again time to think about renewing your membership in INMM. Even though it seems as if renewal periods are getting closer and closer as I get older, the fact is our membership period continues to run from Oct. 1 to Sept. 30 each year. Consequently, you should be receiving a notice within the next month asking you to submit your renewal.
The Membership Committee believes that the membership fee is a great value compared to other professional societies, and we hope that you find your membership to be a good value as well as valuable.
As always, we ask that you renew as soon as possible, as your quick response reduces our administrative costs and ensures that your membership information is updated in a timely manner for inclusion in our Membership Directory.
As our membership has now surpassed the 1,000 mark, this directory of the world’s most noted experts in the field of nuclear material management continues to be an invaluable benefit to our members, and it is important that every member’s information is accurately reflected.
As is typical following our Annual Meeting, we have experienced a high number of new membership applications, and the Membership Committee welcomes the members who have joined since the last issue of the Communicator. The names of the 42 new members are shown at the end of this column.
In case you were unable to attend, the Membership Committee recognized several recently deceased INMM members with Resolutions of Respect during this year’s Annual Meeting. Unfortunately, several of our long-time members passed away this year, and these Resolutions of Respect serve as a reminder to these individuals' friends and colleagues that they are not forgotten and will be deeply missed.
During this year’s meeting, we recognized the passing of Carl G. Ahlberg, James Russell Griggs, Lewis Hansen, Edward Kerr, James W. Lee, and Lewis Calvin (Cal) Solem. As stated in each of the Resolutions of Respect issued, we trust that these individuals' families will be “comforted by the memory of their many worthy deeds, accomplishments and contributions to their profession throughout their lifetimes."
Several of our long-time members recently experienced a very different type of transition: Norbert Ensslin, James Tape and Dennis Wilkey are all retiring this year. We want to wish them all the best as they suddenly find time to do all those things they have been saving for when they “have more time.”
More importantly, the Membership Committee reminds them that even though they may now have fewer employment obligations, we hope to continue to have the opportunity to learn from their experience and wisdom through frequent interactions.
I welcome news about any INMM member, including yourself. Keep us informed by sending any items of interest to either me at scott.vance@pillsburylaw.com or our Communicator Editor, Sara Pozzi at pozzisa@ornl.gov. Please include photographs when possible.
