Welcome to the fall 2007 issue of the INMM Communicator! It is time to wrap up another great annual meeting, which was held in Tucson, AZ, July 8-12, 2007. Those of you who participated know that it was a huge success!

The call for papers for next year’s 49th INMM Annual meeting is out. The meeting will be held on July 13-17, 2008, in Nashville, TN. Start thinking about an abstract -- the due date is Feb. 1, 2008. Instructions for organizing a special session can be found in a piece by Charles Pietri, chair of the Technical Program Committee.

One of the highlights of this year’s meeting was the attendance of many students, both from within the United States and from overseas. A vibrant student paper competition was headed by Yvonne Ferris, head of the Awards Committee and by Cary Crawford, head of the Memorial and Outreach Subcommittee. This year’s winners of the J. D. Williams Student Paper Award were Brandon Grogan (first prize) and Shaun Clarke (second prize). Congratulations to Brandon and Shaun! You will find more information about other INMM awards in a piece by Yvonne Ferris.

A reminder to students: you have the opportunity to apply for the Robert J. Sorenson Memorial Scholarship. A link to the application form can be found here.

In this issue of the Communicator, we have a piece from Jim Larrimore, chair of the International Safeguards Division, who tells us about what’s new in his division. Taner Uckan, a long-time INMM member, shares some of his thoughts on the upcoming 50 th anniversary of our Institute.

As in every issue of the Communicator, we have news about the Institute’s internal operations in a column by INMM Vice President Steve Ortiz, “Inside Insights.” Another regular feature is the piece “Member News,” by Grace Thomson, our Membership Committee chair. A special welcome to all the new INMM members; their names are listed in Grace’s piece.

As always, I look forward to hearing from you! The Communications Committee is looking for volunteers: please drop me a line at pozzisa@ornl.gov.
