International Safeguards Technical Division News

At the 2006 INMM Annual Meeting in Nashville, Tenn., in July, the International Safeguards Technical Division (ISD) held a successful divisional meeting, attended by more than 50 people, and made the following plans for upcoming ISD activities.
- In October 2006 ISD will hold a dinner meeting on Wednesday evening during the IAEA safeguards symposium in Vienna, Austria, in collaboration with the INMM Vienna Chapter. Symposium attendees are welcome; signup will take place at the symposium.
- The ISD Cecil Sonnier memorial article, “Transparency and Openness: Role and Limitations in the Nuclear Nonproliferation Verification System,” has been completed for publication in the fall 2006 issue of the Journal of Nuclear Materials Management (JNMM).
- A comprehensive tutorial on international safeguards has been completed and will soon be posted on the INMM Web site.
- Proceedings of the 2005 INMM/ESARDA Santa Fe Workshop on “Changing the Safeguards Culture: Broader Perspectives and Challenges” will be issued soon as a CD.
- In 2007, ISD will hold meetings at the ESARDA Symposium in Aix en Provence in late May and at the INMM Annual Meeting in Tucson in July.
- ISD has begun to work to organize a special summer 2007 issue of JNMM in honor of 50 years of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
- For 2008, planning has started for the sixth joint INMM/ESARDA workshop, to be held in Japan in October.
