October 2006
Editor's Note
Welcome to the October 2006 issue of the INMM Communicator! You will find many exciting articles in this issue. It is time to wrap up another great annual meeting, which was held in Nashville, Tenn., on July 16-20, 2006. Those of you who participated know that it was a huge success, with the highest number of student participants ever! The meeting highlights are described in a piece by Technical Program Chair Charles Pietri.
For the fourth year, at the Annual Meeting’s speaker’s breakfast, INMM Fellow Paul Ebel delivered an excellent speech on how to improve our oral presentations. This year’s speech was about improving our presentations by asking for feedback. A summary of his tips is included in this issue.
One of the highlights of this year’s meeting was the attendance of many students, both from within the United States and from overseas. A vibrant student competition was headed by Yvonne Ferris, head of the Awards Committee and by Chad Olinger, chair of the Memorial and Outreach Subcommittee.
More than 30 students participated in the competition with oral presentations and posters. This year’s winner of the J. D. Williams Student Paper Award was Andreas Enqvist, a Ph.D. student at Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden. The award comes with a $1,000 check. Congratulations, Andreas! You will find information about other INMM awards in a piece by Yvonne Ferris, head of the Awards Committee.
Nicholas Smith won the second price, which comes with a $500 check, and John Tackentien won the best poster award, which comes with a $1,000 check. Congratulations to Nicholas and Josh.
