Member News

If you a current member of INMM, you should have already received an “Early Renewal Announcement” e-mail from INMM Headquarters. While it may seem that we are getting earlier with our renewal requests each year, we are not following the trend of your local mall and will not be advertising for Christmas later this month.

As always, our normal membership period reflects the U.S. federal government’s fiscal year of Oct. 1 to Sept. 30; thus, unless you joined within the last three months, it’s time for you to renew your membership for the upcoming membership year. If you will take a moment now and renew during this early period, you will save the Institute a great deal of time and money, as you will help reduce the number of hard-copy renewal notices that we must send out.

You will also be assured that your updated information will be included in the latest edition of the printable Membership Directory, which is now available online.

Most importantly, by renewing early you can be assured that your membership benefits will be uninterrupted as the fall issue of the Journal of Nuclear Materials Management is distributed, which will undoubtedly include some of the most up-to-date information from the world of nuclear materials management that you can find. If you haven’t done so, please take just a few minutes today and renew via our electronic renewal system. And if you have done so, thank you.

I mentioned that you do not need to renew your membership if you have joined within the last three months, and there are several individuals to whom this exclusion applies. The Membership Committee welcomes the 42 members who have joined since the last issue of The Communicator; you will find the names of these new members at the end of this column. If you have the opportunity to welcome one or more of these new members to INMM, be sure to tell them how you find your membership valuable.

The Institute takes time at each Annual Meeting to acknowledge our personal and professional loss from those members who have passed away during the previous year. While we are always saddened from our loss, it is important for us to recognize the contribution that these individuals have made to the field of nuclear materials management and acknowledge the friendship that we have developed with them, often over the period of decades. During this year’s Annual Meeting, Resolutions of Respect were read for:

  • Tohru Haginoya
  • Richard A. Schneider
  • Fred H. Tingey

The Institute also named five new Senior Members at this year’s Annual Meeting:

  • Reza Abedin-Zadeh
  • Connie P. Hall
  • Rosemarie N. Martyn
  • Andrey Mozhayev
  • Christopher Price

As you may not know, Senior Membership is a designation given to individuals who have not only been members of INMM for at least five years, but, more importantly, have demonstrated their commitment to the goals of INMM by making significant contributions to the organization. The Membership Committee congratulates these members for their advancement and thanks them for their continued support to the Institute.

In addition to naming these five new Senior Members, the Institute also named two individuals as Fellows at this year’s Annual Meeting. Being named as a Fellow is no insignificant achievement; such recognition demonstrates that the individual has not only made significant contributions to INMM over a number of years, but they have also made significant professional contributions to the field of nuclear materials management.

This recognition is the highest recognition that the Institute offers, and the Membership Committee congratulates Jim Larrimore and Bruce Moran for being named as Fellows of the Institute in 2006.

Speaking of Bruce Moran, in May he was awarded a Meritorious Service Award by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The award recognized his “extraordinary contribution over the last 10 years to enhancing international safeguards and combating proliferation of nuclear weapons.” The NRC stated that his “expertise, initiative and dedication have directly enhanced public security and significantly contributed to accomplishing the NRC’s and the U.S. government’s nuclear nonproliferation goals.” Congratulations, Bruce.

I welcome news about any INMM member, including yourself.  Keep us informed by sending any items of interest to either me at scott.vance@pillsburylaw.com or our Communicator Editor, Sara Pozzi at pozzisa@ornl.gov. Include photographs when possible.
