INMM Awards
 |
By Yvonne Ferris
Chair, INMM Awards Oversight Committee |
The Awards Committee hopes that you, the INMM membership, that at this very moment you are studying your awards brochure and seriously contemplating who you know who fits the criteria of the three very prestigious INMM awards that honor members of the nuclear community. To refresh everyone’s collective memories, the three awards are the:
- Distinguished Service Award
- Meritorious Service Award
- Special Service Award
The materials that MUST be provided to nominate a candidate for ANY of these awards are:
- Name of the award for which the individual or institution is being nominated.
- Name and address of the nominee, including title if nominee is a person;
- former title if the individual is retired; or company, institution or university if the nominee is not a person.
- Name, address, and phone number of nominee’s company or organization
- Recent resume of individual nominee, or history of institutional nominee
- Supporting information for eligibility. See specific nomination guidelines.
- Nominations should summarize the individual’s or institution’s accomplishments and contributions
- A minimum of five independent letters of support from peers. Letters with substantially the same text will not be considered as separate letters, nor will letters with multiple signatures be considered separate letters. The committees require that no more than three letters shall be from the nominee’s last or current organization.
- Name, company, address, telephone, e-mail address, and fax number of individual to contact concerning the nomination. This is very important as contacting the nominator may be necessary to obtain additional information.
Individual guidelines that delineate one award from another are:
DISTINUISHED SERVICE AWARD:
- Focuses on long-term noteworthy accomplishments in and service to the nuclear materials management profession; internationally recognized for their contributions tonuclear materials management, and must be employed in or retired from full-time employment in the field of nuclear materials management
MERITORIOUS SERVICE AWARD:
- Focuses on long-term outstanding contribution to INMM as well as noteworthy professional accomplishments; and must be an INMM member who is employed or retired from full-time employment in the field of nuclear materials management
SPECIAL SERVICE AWARD:
- Focuses on a person, laboratory or business that has contributed substantial service or made specific noteworthy contributions to the nuclear management field or INMM; the service may be a substantial single event or long-term sustained effort; recipient not required to be an INMM member.
NOTE: Please remember that nominations should be kept in strict confidentiality for two reasons: (1) maintaining confidentially facilitates a surprise to the recipient if the nomination is approved, and (2) it precludes disappointment if for some reason the nomination is not approved this particular year. Of course, if the nominated person is approved, the committee encourages the nominator to invite family members or professional colleagues to the awards banquet honoring the recipient of the award. Confidentiality, however, must still be maintained.
The Committee Chairs are eager to hear from you as only you know who the deserving candidates are.
On a more sobering note, if anyone knows of a member of the INMM or a prominent member of the international nuclear community who has passed away in the last year, please let us know that, too. We want to honor them, but we cannot do so unless we know who he/she is.
